Azerbaijani Independent Research Center "ELS" organizes international conference "Use of international experience in increasing electoral activity of women" in Ganja August 24-25.

"The aim of the conference is to inform active women of Azerbaijani western region about the process of nominating candidates for the parliamentary elections", "ELS" head Irada Yagubova told Trend.

She said that the poll conducted by the research center revealed that the majority of women in Azerbaijan have no idea about the process of nominating candidates. These women need legal and moral support.

The parliamentary elections will be held Nov. 7, 2010. Previous legislative elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.

Women's activity was low in the municipal elections of 2009, Yagubova said.

Representatives of the U.S League of Women Voters", experts from other organizations of the United States and Bulgaria will attend the conference. The International Conference will be held with the financial support of the U.S Embassy in Azerbaijan.
