United States, Turkmenistan extend intergovernmental agreement on drug control

The U.S. and Turkmenistan signed an intergovernmental document - the fourth supplement to the existing agreement on drug control and assistance to law and order protection, dated September 2001, the U.S. Embassy said.

The U.S. and Turkmenistan signed an intergovernmental document - the fourth supplement to the existing agreement on drug control and assistance to law and order protection, dated September 2001, the U.S. Embassy said.

The document was signed from Turkmen side by deputy chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, from the U.S. side - Charge d'affaires of the United States Lynn Tracy.

Supplements extend term of assistance on projects "Teaching English to Turkmenistan's law enforcement agencies' employees" and "Improving the capacity to combat drug for State Service of Turkmenistan."

Turkmenistan has a long border with Afghanistan. According to the UN data, from Afghanistan large amounts of drugs are smuggled, including to Europe.
