U.S. attaches great importance to the parliamentary elections to be held in autumn in Azerbaijan, the head of the political department of the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan, Ryan Campbell, and advisor on democracy and human rights Brigitte Boucher said during a meeting with the chairman of the Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) on August 30.

During the meeting, the embassy officials said that the government of Azerbaijan pays special attention to these elections. Guests told that the U.S. will continue to assist Azerbaijan in protecting fundamental freedoms and human rights, and will continue to work with government and civil society in this regard.

The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for November 7, 2010. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
