Azerbaijani opposition party gets ready for elections

The Classic Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) has submitted the necessary documents to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections to the Central Election Commission, the CPFPA told Trend today.

The Classic Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (CPFPA) has submitted the necessary documents to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections to the Central Election Commission, the CPFPA told Trend today.

The party is a member of the Union for Democracy, together with the Azadlig party, People's Party, Great Azerbaijan Party and National Democratic Party. The union has nominated 73 candidates.

The Union for Democracy was founded by CPFA, Azadlig and the National Democracy Party after the 2005 parliamentary election. The Great Azerbaijan Party joined the union in early Sept. 2008. The People's Party joined in November. The union is an advisory and cooperation body.

Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for Nov. 7. Previous parliamentary elections were held in November 2005. Parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are held by the majority system in 125 constituencies.
