The process of resettlement of the Meskhetian Turks to Georgia will begin in January 2011, Deputy Reintegration Minister Elena Tevdoradze said.
"The law on the repatriation of the Meskhetian Turks already entered into force. Their relocation to Georgia will begin in January 2011. Those individuals who have made an application for immigrant status to the Ministry for issues of forcibly displaced persons from the occupied areas, resettlement and refugees will be able to come to Georgia and choose their place of residence at their discretion," Tevdoradze said.
However, she said, the cost of resettlement is not obligations of the state and immigrants will buy homes at their own expense.
