Cuba's State Council chairman: Cuba stands for intensifying friendly relations with Turkmenistan

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Oct. 26 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Raul Castro Rus, chairman of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, sent a congratulatory letter to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov.

"Let me convey you my sincere congratulations on the occasion of Independence Day (October 27) and once again confirm our interest in intensifying friendly relations with Turkmenistan, the official letter said.

At present, Turkmenistan intensified cooperation with Latin American countries. Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez  visited Ashgabat in 2009. He proposed Turkmenistan, ranking fourth on gas reserves in the world, to join the organization of "blue fuel" producers.

A delegation of the Cuba's Foreign Ministry headed by Deputy Director for European Affairs Santiago Perez Benitez, visited Ashgabat a year ago. Several meetings took place in a number of ministries and departments, including the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The prospects of Turkmen-Cuban cooperation, including the cooperation within international organizations, were discussed at the talks.
