The Mursalli and Shikhlar villages in Azerbaijan's Sabirabad region were heavily affected by the flooding of the Kur and Araz rivers in April and May. Residential and commercial buildings were destroyed, and later reconstructed based on a regional rehabilitation plan.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Yusif Gasimov Public School in Mursalli today after the institution's overhaul, the AzerTaj state news agency reported.
All of the necessary conditions have been created to ensure a top-notch education for children in the two-storey educational building for 320 pupils.
During the even, the president studied construction and reconstruction operations in the region's flood-affected areas. Emergency Situations Minister Kemaladdin Heydarov informed the president about continuing restoration works in Sabirabad.
Aliyev also met with the residents of the village. The school's principal, Ahad Shukurov, thanked the president for his attention and care on behalf of the villagers.
Aliyev then visited Shikhlar villager Agashirin Tarverdiyev's new home.
The president also laid a wreath today at a monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Sabirabad, the AzerTaj state news agency reported.
