Azerbaijani-Lithuanian inter-parliamentary relations to be discussed in Baku

A delegation of the Lithuanian Seimas (parliament) will discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation in Baku. The delegation headed by Chairman of the Committee on International Relations of the Seimas Emanuelis Zingeris will arrive in Azerbaijan November 23, Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmanas told Trend.

A delegation of the Lithuanian Seimas (parliament) will discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation in Baku. The delegation headed by Chairman of the Committee on International Relations of the Seimas Emanuelis Zingeris will arrive in Azerbaijan November 23, Lithuanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Kestutis Kudzmanas told Trend.

The meetings with be held for the delegation to discuss further cooperation between the two countries in the Azerbaijani Parliament and a number of state bodies.

Lithuania assists Azerbaijan to unify legislative acts given the EU standards within "Eastern Partnership" of the European Union.

A two-year project has been implemented since September last year.

The main objective of "Twining" project, supported by the Lithuanian Seimas is a contribution to strengthening democracy and the rule of law in Azerbaijan, in particular, to assist in the approximation of laws of the republic to the EU legislation.

The Eastern Partnership Program is a Polish-Swedish initiative under the EU Neighborhood Policy aimed at improving EU relations with six former Soviet countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine and Armenia. The program envisages allocation of 600 million euros to the countries up to 2013 to strengthen state institutions, control of borders and help small companies. The constituent summit of the Eastern Partnership was held in Prague May 7, 2008.
