Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 23 / Trend T. Hajiyev /

Outdated thinking dooms the opposition Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) and Musavat Party to defeat, ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told Trend today.

"The Azerbaijani opposition must adapt to the country's pace of development," he said. "Processes in Azerbaijan run at an accelerated pace. Pre-election debates showed that the thinking of some opposition representatives is behind by about 20 years. Their way of thinking, their ideas and their decisions do not change. Therefore, these people prevent their parties' development."

More than 30 candidates from the APFP and Musavat failed to win the necessary amount of votes to gain a seat in parliament. The leadership of both parties refused to recognize the results of the elections held on Nov. 7 in Azerbaijan.

"These people are not interested in the formation and development of our political system," he said. "For them, a party is a place to work like a plant or a factory."

According to Novruzov, Azerbaijan has recently seen the launch of a number of new opposition parties.

"Several parties have been created from the composition of the APPF," he said. "They are all opposition parties. The fact is that some forces turn their parties into personal monopolies and they do not create opportunities for the promotion and development of the organization, which results in its disintegration or division."

Novruzov pointed out that such parties cannot talk about pluralism and democracy.

"For this reason, new parties were formed," he said. "A new generation of the opposition is needed with a European mindset and a European education."

The APPF and Musavat refused to comment on Nozruzov's statements.
