Georgian Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia and U.S. Ambassador John Bass toured the Krtsanisi Training Center on Dec. 6. They also attended simulation classes at the center.

Akhalaia said the Krtsanisi Training Center is a major Georgian military center. In addition to training recruits, the center also retrains experienced military servicemen.

"We have made serious progress, especially in terms of our simulation center," Akhalaia said.

Meanwhile, the ambassador studied the preparatory activities of 32 battalions that will soon head to Afghanistan.

The diplomat said the United States supports Georgia's defense capabilities.

"Of course, the army's weapons are very important," he said. "But human resources and military professionalism are also vital. We see that the Georgian Defense Ministry has chosen the right path."

He also noted Georgia's contribution in NATO Afghanistan operations.

"We once again thank Georgia for this contribution," he said. "We are aware of the losses in the Georgian battalion and once again express our condolences to the families of the deceased Georgian soldiers."
