Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov said Turkmenistan is likely to nominate its candidature to the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2013-2015.
"We need to start serious preparations for decent conduct of the election campaign and allocate the necessary resources. The UN is our priority partner, the relations with whom we will only strengthen in the future," he said.
To this end, Berdimuhammedov instructed to strengthen the cadre of the Turkmen Permanent Mission to the UN to solve the issue of opening the relevant mission in 2011 in Geneva, where a number of key UN bodies are located.
The Turkmen leader instructed the country's relevant authorities, before the election period, to work with specialized UN agencies - the Economic and Social Affairs Department, UN Economic Commission for Europe and UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific - on joint projects, the results of which could be used later by the Turkmen delegation to the ECOSOC to promote large-scale social and economic programs at the global and regional levels.
The UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia is located in Ashgabat.
