Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 23 / Trend M. Aliyev /
About 6,000 families of refugees and internally displaced people settled in vacant houses in Azerbaijan, Ali Hasanov, Deputy Prime Minister, the chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, said.
"I can not call them illegally seized because the then government should have tried to control this process. People were forced to settle in these houses. This question is very relevant, since a number of owners of apartments appealed to the European court. Some complaints were reviewed and the decisions were made. We have already returned apartments to 16 families. This process is underway, " Hasanov said.
He said that the issue is under state control.
"Internally displaced people, settled temporarily in private homes, will be transferred to new apartments. The houses will be returned to former owners. These are the flats in Baku, Sumgait and Ganja," Hasanov said.
About one million people became refugees in Azerbaijan as a result of Armenian aggression.
