Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymuhammedov made a number of appointments in the structure of the Turkmen State Service on Drugs.
Lieutenant colonel Gurbanmurat Saipiyev was appointed first deputy head of the service. Earlier, he worked as head of the appropriate department in Ashgabat. Now, Atadurdy Osmanov headed the metropolitan administration of the State Service.
The specialized program of activities to combat drug trafficking was conducted in the country in 2010.
Turkmen leader repeatedly said on television about the importance of preventive measures. He stressed the need to further strengthen the work to confront this dangerous social evil together with local municipalities and public organizations.
Turkmenistan borders with Afghanistan. According to the UN, its territory is one of the main sources of drugs smuggling. Official Ashgabat buys helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, takes steps to strengthen the fight at the border and all checkpoints for more effective work in this direction.
