Resignations at the Musavat Party will continue, the chairman of the opposition Democratic Party of Azerbaijan (DPA) Sardar Jalaloglu told Trend, commenting on recent resignations at the Musavat Party.
"The events at the Musavat Party are linked with the defeat in the parliamentary elections," said Jalaloglu.
According to him, unlike other parties, the Musavat Party has always gained a certain number of seats in parliamentary elections in previous years.
"Musavat has always functioned as a parliamentary party. This preserved the hope for the party's future, and in a sense, promoted the unity among its members. In these elections, Musavat could not gain parliamentary seats and was for the first time stripped from public life. We do not have similar problems due to the fact that the parties like ours go on long enough, and we have never been represented in government. Unlike us, Musavat Party was organized by forces that were once in power, and the ability to re-coming to power was another reason for bringing people to this party. A strong syndrome of failure appeared at the Musavat Party. Such cases are always expected, but for Musavat, it was unexpected," said Jalaloglu.
Recently, Azerbaijani opposition Musavat Party's four functionaries Sulheddin Akbar, Ibrahim Ibrahimli, Adil Geybulla and Gabil Huseynli resigned from the party.
No candidate from the Musavat Party could gain the parliamentary mandate. According to Jalaloglu, the blow to the Musavat Party after parliamentary elections is unusual for it and caused confusion in the party. Jalaloglu said this failure had to be predicted in advance.
"In this situation, the party could take certain steps after the parliamentary elections and compensate for its failure. These steps had to be planned in advance. For example, unifying with PPFA could compensate for the failure. Musavat Party could eliminate the effects of syndrome of failure, re-develop the principles of its inner policy, revising its ideology, conducting reformation and making personnel changes," said Jalaloglu.
But exactly opposite processes took place at the Musavat Party.
"Conservative forces more united. They have not agreed on the ideological and fundamental changes in the party. No major changes took place in the personnel policy of the party. Naturally, as a result, a new and more powerful syndrome of failure appeared that caused removal of certain forces from the party. In addition to the influence of the election results, I accept it as a consequence of non-achieved results, which were expected from the party," said Jalaloglu.
According to him, no person can be an eternal member at any party in the world. "The party is a form of ensuring individual interests in form of a group. If the interests of people are not ensured by a specific group, of course, he/she must either leave the group or gravitate to another group," said Jalaloglu.
