Kazakhstan will strengthen security measures at the transport facilities in light of recent events at Russia's Domodedovo airport, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said as a result of an operational meeting today to prepare for the 7th Asian Winter Games.

Kazakhstan will strengthen security measures at the transport facilities in light of recent events at Russia's Domodedovo airport, the Ministry of Transport and Communications said as a result of an operational meeting today to prepare for the 7th Asian Winter Games.

"Given the Astana summit in December, currently the main transportation hubs of the country - airports and railway stations of Almaty and Astana - are in full readiness. All feasible measures have been taken to ensure safety not only at the time of the Asian Games, but for further period," Minister of Transport and Communications Abelgazi Kusainov said, addressing the meeting in Astana.
According to his information, measures have been taken to identify the areas of greater control over the arrival of passengers, the installation of additional cameras and equipment for baggage screening.

A blast took place in the arrival hall of the Moscow airport on Jan. 24 at 4:32 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the bomb was exploded by a suicide bomber. Roughly 35 people died and 200 were injured. Roughly 116 people were hospitalized.

Press service of the Ministry reported that a decision on strengthening the measures was made at the meeting with representatives of the National Security Committee, Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic.
