U.S. Embassy warns Georgian citizens

Georgia, Tbilisi, Feb. 18 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

The U.S. Embassy in Georgia reported that has evidences on e-fraud scheme related to the Green Card lottery.

Citizens receive emails, which say that they won the Green Card and that to obtain the card they had to fill out an application and pay service fee through Western Union. Some emails look very convincingly. Unfortunately, these letters misled many Georgians. They paid a lot of money to fraudsters.

The Embassy states that absolutely no letters or e-mails will be mailed out to notify winners.
Individuals who participated in the raffle from May 1 2010to June 30, 2011 should read the information on this site http://www.dvlottery.states.gov. One can find out whether he won a Green Card only on this site.

Fraudsters use in their scheme the following email addresses: dv.states.gov @ usa.com, us.states.gov @ usa.com, [email protected]

The U.S. Embassy asked the Georgian citizens not to respond to messages sent from these addresses.
