Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have friendly and good neighborly relations, which have long and deep historical roots, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a recent governmental meeting, national TV channel "Miras" reported.
The issues of partnership with neighboring Iran were raised in connection at a meeting of the Turkmen-Iranian Business Council in Ashgabat on Feb. 21-23.
"The forthcoming exhibition was designed to demonstrate the desire of the two neighboring countries linked by a long historical proximity and common cultural heritage, to broaden the framework of trade and economic dialogue at the present stage.
The cooperation in the field of energy supplies is a key to the economic ties between the two neighboring countries. A new transmission system between Turkmen Dovletabad field and Iranian settlement Sangbast has been recently put into operation.
According to the project, the gas pipeline will provide an opportunity to increase supply up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Iran will be able to purchase 20 billion cubic meters of gas in Turkmenistan annually given the gas pipeline Korpedzhe-Kurtkui in the west of Turkmenistan.
Moreover, energy supplies are being discussed with the Iranian side.
