There is no public support for mass rallies in Azerbaijan, ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told Trend today.
"The individuals who look to rally are instigated by external forces.By holding an unauthorized rally, they want to create confrontation and escalate the situation," Novruzov said.
He added that protesters know they cannot succeed as they failed to gain votes in the elections.
"They always lost in our democratic and fair elections," he said.
Novruzov condemned several journalists for joining in previous rallies. "When the opposition tried to rallies, journalists working for their newspapers shouted slogans. A journalist must show independence in such cases," he said.
The opposition Musavat party attempted to hold an unsanctioned mass rally on March 12. The Public Chamber has decided to hold a second meeting in April.
