Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev appointed Maj. Gen. Kalmuhanbet Kasymov as the country's interior minister.
Kasymov replaced Serik Baimaganbetov, who headed the ministry since April 2009.
Nazarbayev won 95.55 percent of the vote in the presidential elections on April 3.
Following his inauguration on April 8, the Cabinet of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Karim Massimov stood down in accordance with the law.
On the same day, Nazarbayev reappointed Masimov as the PM.
