After the reconciliation of FATAH and HAMAS, a new period will begin in domestic and foreign policy for Palestine, particularly in the peace process between Palestine and Israel, a the Knesset member from the Arab National Democratic Union bloc believes.
"The reconciliation between FATAH and HAMAS will lead to reinforcing power and opportunities of the Palestinian state, which, in turn, will lead to a revision of foreign policy and the issue of the occupied territories," Haneen Zoabi told Trend over the phone from Tel Aviv.
High-ranking delegations opposing the Palestinian movements that resumed talks on inter-Palestinian reconciliation in Cairo on Wednesday with Egypt's mediation, have reached a preliminary agreement on all contentious issues.
The parties have initialed a document on reconciliation, which refers to an agreement on holding elections and forming a government.
Commenting on Israel's attitude to the reconciliation of the above-mentioned movements, Zoabi said that it would negatively affect Israel's interests.
"United Palestine will force Israel to recognize the Palestinians' rights. Palestine will prove the world that Israel occupied Palestinian territories," she said.
Zoabi also believes that after the revolutions in several Arab countries, a period has started in Arab history when they will no longer "indulge" Israel's interests.
Zoabi stressed the importance of unity of Palestine, saying that the reconciliation will help to start a new stage of the Palestinian struggle for liberation of the occupied lands and the struggle against the Israeli aggression.
The HAMAS movement seized power in Gaza Strip in 2007, which led to its isolation from the West bank of the Jordan River, controlled by the Palestinian Authority headed by Mahmoud Abbas.
In mid-March 2011, Abbas stated his willingness to visit the enclave to begin the settlement of internecine conflict. His initiative envisages creating a government of independent candidates, which will prepare general presidential and parliamentary elections within six months under the auspices of the UN, League of Arab States, other international and public organizations.
HAMAS has promised to take all necessary measures so that such a visit took place.
FATAH and HAMAS could not reach a consensus on forming a Palestinian government, separation of powers, ensuring security, terms and order of holding presidential and parliamentary elections.
