A delegation of Turkmen officials visited the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, the organization's press release says.

The delegation of Turkmenistan included representatives of the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and the Ministry of Economy and Development, the press release says.
Within the visit the delegation attended the 46th session of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights as an observer.

"This first-hand experience is particularly valuable in view of the upcoming review by the Committee of Turkmenistan's initial report on observance of the rights recognized in the Covenant. The review of Turkmenistan's report will be held at the 47th session of the Committee scheduled for November 2011," the press release says.
Members of the delegation also had meetings at OHCHR's Europe and Central Asia Section, the Research and Right to Development Division and the Human Rights Treaties Division.

The study visit was organized in the framework of the project "Strengthening the National Capacity of Turkmenistan to Promote and Protect Human Rights" implemented jointly by the EU, UNDP and OHCHR in partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan.
Its overall objective is to increase knowledge on international human rights standards and mechanisms in Turkmenistan and to strengthen national capacities to promote and protect human rights in accordance with these standards.
