The Azerbaijani police have achieved significant results in terms of increasing public confidence in their activities, Deputy Interior Minister Oruj Zalov said at an international conference today.

Azerbaijan started the project "Police, supported by society" Since 2006. A pilot project was implemented in Mingachevir for the first time.

Zalov said significant results have been achieved, in a short period of time, in increasing public confidence in the police and improving relations between police and society. The joint deliberations of thepopulation and the police resolved issues concerning society.

Thanks to the achieved results, the project was implemented in the country's 10 regions. Significant successes were achieved here in the fight against crime, crime prevention and reducing the number of crimes, he added.

According to him, following the amendments to Law on Police in 2008, the project was realized throughout the country. To this end, public councils and the Institute of precinct have been established throughout the country, and 4,000 leading members of society have become members of the public councils. These councils work to build relationships
between police and society, and reduce the number of crimes in the police accountable to the public, as well as inform about the work done and help to solve certain social problems.
