Azerbaijani Defense Minister, Colonel General Safar Abiyev attended a meeting of defense ministers of non-NATO members supporting the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan on June 9.

The meeting was held at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

At the meeting, the ministers discussed ISAF operations, including the transfer of guiding role to Afghanistan and the situation to be emerged afterwards.

The NATO Rule of Law Field Support Mission has been endorsed at the meeting to strengthen the rule of law in Afghanistan.

On the same day, Minister Safar Abiyev met with NATO new Special Representative to South Caucasus James Appathurai.

The meeting discussed relations between Azerbaijan and NATO, enhancing operational interaction with NATO, Azerbaijan's support for ISAF operation in Afghanistan and other issues.

Views were exchanged on the process of resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Within his visit, Abiyev met with the Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich. The sides discussed cooperation in defense sphere.
