Azerbaijan, Baku, June 19 /Trend/

Baku's Chief Police Department and Prosecutor's Office have issued a joint statement over an unauthorized rally held by the opposition.

According to the statement, members of some radical opposition parties, which are a part of the structure, calling itself the Public Chamber, Sunday violated the rules of organizing and holding gatherings and the public order by their actions in several places of the capital.

Protesters, most of whom are members of Musavat and Azerbaijan Popular Front parties, from 17:00 gathered in small groups and violated the peace, rights and freedoms of the people, resisted the police officers who urged them to comply with the rule of law, and committed actions, classified as petty hooliganism, says the statement.

As a result of police's activities, 23 of about 80 people who participated in the action were detained for violating the rules of gatherings, the resistance to legitimate demands of police and the petty hooliganism. Their actions have been documented for taking statutory measures. The materials on 10 detainees were forwarded to the appropriate courts. Relevant decisions were taken against remaining 13 detainees in the territorial police bodies, read the statement.
