The Embassy of Palestine was officially opened in Baku on June 29. The event was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who was on official visit to Azerbaijan.

The Embassy of Palestine was officially opened in Baku on June 29. The event was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas who was on official visit to Azerbaijan.

The Head of Palestine cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the embassy.

President Mahmoud Abbas met with the employees of the embassy. The honored guest, who got familiarized with the conditions at the embassy, was informed that the diplomatic mission consists of five administrative and several outbuildings. Seven people work at the embassy and necessary conditions have been created for their activities.

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Elchin Efendiyev said that the opening of the Palestinian embassy in Azerbaijan will create conditions for the further development of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples. The current phase of relations between the two countries creates opportunities for the development of bilateral ties, he said. Political relations between Azerbaijan and Palestine are at a high level. New opportunities will open for cooperation in many spheres between the two countries in the future.

President Mahmoud Abbas expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani government for the building allocated for the Palestinian embassy. The Head of Palestine said that this factor is another indicator of the development of relations between the two countries.

Expressing satisfaction with his first visit to Azerbaijan, Mahmoud Abbas praised the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people. Mentioning the longstanding historical ties between the two nations, President Mahmoud Abbas highlighted the availability of new prospects for cooperation in many fields between Azerbaijan and Palestine. He stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation in socio-economic sphere.
