In welcoming the upcoming Ramadan, Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree on how to hold it appropriately.
Uzbek Muslims will greet the beginning of the Holy Ramadan on Aug. 1 , when they will fast and refrain from eating and drinking for 30 days .
President Islam Karimov instructed local authorities and public organizations to take measures to hold the month of Ramadan in accordance with national customs.
Ramadan is a month of Muslim fasting, prayers, and good works. During this month, the faithful people ask God for remission and make prayers .
All healthy people must fast, except for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children. People who are ill or undertaking a journey are not required to fast.
