Turkmenistan , Ashgabat, Aug. 3 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a meeting of the State Security Council that Turkmenistan is fighting drugs, the Altyn Asyr national TV channel reported.

The president emphasized that the country takes and will continue to take consistent actions to combat illicit narcotics trafficking.

Turkmenistan is a participant of three international conventions on combating illicit trafficking in narcotics and psychotropic substances. The conventions decisions were adopted by the UN in 1961, 1971, and 1988.

The country implements a number of regional and national projects involving the U.S. and British governments.

The last large-scale campaign to destroy a large consignment of drugs, seized in successful special operations, was conducted jointly by Turkmen law enforcement and military agencies. The campaign was held in the Kasamli Julge area near Ashgabat in late June.

The president stressed the importance of training qualified personnel for the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies.
