President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort and his accompanying delegation.
The Head of State congratulated Lefort on his appointment. He underlined relationship between the European Union and regional countries marked a new era in its development. The Azerbaijani leader expressed assurance EU-Azerbaijan cooperation would continue to expand.
Lefort delivered Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton`s greetings to the Head of State. He noted Ashton is interested in enhancing cooperation with countries of the region.
President Aliyev asked the EUSR to pass on his greetings to Catherine Ashton.
The meeting also discussed development of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation in a variety of fields, in particular, ways of resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
