A special meeting of the World Economic Forum, devoted to the economic development in the Middle East and Arab countries, began its work on Saturday in the Jordanian coast of the Dead Sea, Azerbaijani Embassy in Jordan told Trend.
The forum was attended by Jordan's King Abdullah II, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, King of Spain Juan Carlos, Head of the Council of Ministers and Foreign Minister of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Jasim bin Jabr Ali Thani, Head of the Transitional Government of Libya Mahmoud Jibril, Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority Salam Fayyad, President of the World Economic Forum Klaus Shevab, as well as ex-presidents of several countries, public and political leaders, economists and about 700 businessmen, 20 ministers and more representatives of civil society institutions.
Azerbaijan is represented by the delegation headed by Finance Minister Samir Sharifov. The delegation is also attended by the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Jordan E.Arasli.
Giving a speech in the forum, ex-prime minister of France Edward Bilardo, speaking on behalf of the G8, announced the intention of the organization to provide loans worth $70-80 billion to Arab countries and Jordan in order to ensure political and economic reforms in the region.
The forum discussed the problems faced by countries in the Middle East and also organized a workshop on methods to solve them.
