Azerbaijan, Baku, Nov. 17 / Trend M. Aliyev /

Azerbaijan pays special attention to the upcoming repeated, additional and new municipal elections, the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov said.

"More than 1,550 candidates claim for 464 seats in 300 municipalities or a little less than four people per one seat," he told Trend. "This gives voters the opportunity to make their choice among many candidates."

He said that these figures show vigorous interest in the elections. About 3,500 observers were registered to monitor the elections.

"If we take into account that the voting will take place at 1,200 polling stations, it turns out that three observers have been registered at each polling station," he said. "This process is still continuing."

He said that the CEC positively responded to all appeals related to the election supervision.

Regarding the international observers, they have not appealed to the CEC, Panahov said.

"Perhaps, the representatives of international organizations show no interest in these elections because they are repeated and additional," he said. "However, if they show interest, we will create the necessary conditions."

He said that the district election commissions will get the ballots soon.

The repeated, additional and new municipal elections will be held in Azerbaijan on November 30.
