The Council on Foreign Relations of the European Union (EU) adopted the Framework Strategy on Human Rights and Democracy and the Action Plan for its implementation on Monday.

The Council on Foreign Relations of the European Union (EU) adopted the Framework Strategy on Human Rights and Democracy and the Action Plan for its implementation on Monday.

"The issue of human rights was one of my major priorities; it is the main issue, which goes through all the cases that we are implementing in the field of external relations. We want to improve the effectiveness and acceptance of EU policies on human rights by this comprehensive package. I have proposed to appoint EU Special Representative for Human Rights to implement the Strategic Framework and Action Plan. I hope that he will soon be appointed," EU High Representative for Foreign and security Policy, European Commission Vice President Catherine Ashton said after the adoption of the package.

The Framework Strategy sets out the principles, purpose and priorities that serve efficiency and consistency of EU policy for the next 10 years. They do provide the agreed foundation for the provision of collective efforts and attract EU member states and its structure. The Framework Strategy is committed to implementing a real co-operation with civil society. Strategic Framework is constructed so that it is as accessible, that is, it was understood that all the citizens.
