Azerbaijan, Baku, July 6 / Trend M.Aliyev /

A regular meeting of a joint committee of parliaments for Azerbaijan and Russia was held in Baku.

Humanitarian and cultural relations between the two countries are very well developed and continue to develop, First Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said at a meeting.

Parliaments play a crucial role in the development of relations between the countries, and this event will contribute to the development of bilateral relations, Asgarov said.

"I hope that these events will be long and will contribute to further strengthening of relations," Asgarov said.

Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations Samad Seyidov, touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, said that although the OSCE Minsk Group is engaged in the settlement of the conflict, but it does not give the desired result.

"Their low activity and lack of will create conditions for the continuation of the occupation policy of Armenia. Russia, however, as a co-chair of the Minsk Group, in contrast to other co-chairs, demonstrates an active role in resolving the conflict. This gives us grounds to assume that the conflict will be solved fairly and IDPs will return to their native land," Seyidov said.

Chairman of the committee on relations with the CIS and compatriots of the Russian State Duma Leonid Slutsky said that such events play a crucial role in the development of relations between states as well as between nations.

"I believe that these events will contribute to the development of relations," Slutsky said.
