Russia continues intensive militarization of the occupied regions of Georgia, rearming the occupying forces with modern military equipment, including placing offensive missile attack weapons and forming military groups, Georgian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Chief of the Land Forces of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Vladimir Chirkin, violating the state border of Georgia has arrived in the occupied regions of Georgia - Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region where with a purpose of "inspection" visited the so-called base of Russian occupation forces and held meetings with representatives of the occupying regime on July 11 and 13, Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

"A permanent military exercises in occupied areas and around the perimeter of the state border of Georgia and strategic exercise Caucasus -2012 planned for September 2012 should be considered in the context of intense militarization. Russia poses a direct military threat to peace and stability in Georgia and the Black Sea region as a whole," stressed in an official document of the Georgian Foreign Ministry.

It noted that "it is increasingly evident that the regime of the Russian Federation has nothing to offer to the Caucasus except the criminal and mafia rule and militarization."

"This reality has become a major subject of discussion for the Caucasian states, the Caucasian peoples and the international community," highlighted in the document.
