The U.S. government does not support any political party in Georgia, a representative of the State Department in Tbilisi said on Wednesday.

"We expect the opposition to refrain from violence and the election and further days will be peaceful," head of the U.S interagency delegation, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Thomas Melia said.

The U.S. government does not support any party and political leader. It will cooperate with those who will choose the people, he said at the press conference in Tbilisi on Wednesday.

"The first discussed principle is the electoral sphere," he said. "Despite some problems, it is obvious that a particular campaign is underway. The second principle is the issue of the rule of law and the fair justice. We told the government and the opposition that they must fully follow the law. The third principle is to ensure fundamental freedoms. We received information from representatives of all parties that they can travel freely across regions and communicate with voters. The fourth principle is media availability, and the fifth principle - a constructive involvement. We call on all parties for them to work together for economic and democratic development of the country."
