Tokyo intends to work with Azerbaijan within GUAM + Japan format

Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba has sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in connection with the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said today.

Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba has sent a congratulatory letter to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in connection with the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said today.

The letter emphasized the high level of relations between the two countries in political, economic and other areas, and the importance of their development. Calling Azerbaijan as Japan's main partner in the South Caucasus, Gemba expressed his satisfaction with the close cooperation in the political and economic sphere.

Gemba also expressed gratitude for the Azerbaijani President's condolences and attention in connection with earthquake in Japan last March.

According to the letter, Azerbaijan's important role, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and Japan's interest in cooperation with Azerbaijan in this format were stressed.

Moreover, Gemba said that Tokyo is interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan within GUAM + Japan format, as with a country, chairing the organization.
