Azerbaijani ruling party: Changes to law on freedom of assembly are right

Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 29 / Trend corr. E. Mehdiyev /

Increase in penalties for unauthorized actions, provided by the law, is absolutely right. Therefore, the respective draft law, presented for discussion, is logical, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Mubariz Gurbanli said in an interview to the official website of NAP.

Gurbanli said the statements of the opposition parties on the draft law are unreasonable. According to him, legislation of any state includes penalties related to such assemblies. The purpose of the changes in the legislation, is to call for curbing unauthorized actions and attraction of people to them, the MP said.

"In Azerbaijan, mass actions are governed by the law 'On freedom of assembly'. Previously, penalties in regard of people, violating this law, were used as well. The fines will eventually grow. Such changes has also been made in some other countries, as those who conduct illegal actions , act inconsistently with the public and political life, security, and society in terms of public order. Therefore, the amendments, introduced to the relevant laws, increased requirements that prevent illegal actions. If the opposition wants to hold mass actions, they must act within law. Otherwise they will face the law. From this point of view, I believe that the changes providing for higher fines for illegal actions, are right and logical, " the deputy executive secretary of NAP stated.
