Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 10 / Trend E. Mehdiyev /
Azerbaijan actively cooperates with NATO to ensure peace and security in the world, deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party and member of the Azerbaijani delegation to NATO PA, MP Siyavush Novruzov told the official website of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party today.
From this point of view, the perception of Azerbaijan as a partner of the organisation in the new NATO mission in Afghanistan is logical and meaningful, he said.
"The result of the efforts made by Azerbaijan is that this authoritative international organisation attaches great importance to Azerbaijan and its mission related to Afghanistan after 2014," Novruzov said.
Azerbaijan is one of active partners in the peace process as part of the international coalition, he said.
Novruzov recalled that Azerbaijani servicemen were actively involved in establishing peace in Kosovo and Iraq. At present, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are actively involved in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
"In this regard parliament made a decision," he said. "The supply of drinkable water which is the most sensitive area in Afghanistan is protected by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. The result of this activity is one the NATO leadership has shown appreciation towards the Azerbaijani peacekeepers. Indeed, a highly qualified Azerbaijani military contingent serves in this region."
Azerbaijan has created a strategy based on NATO standards since 2007 and continues its work based on it, he said. Maintenance, training, discipline and equipping the army correspond to NATO standards.
"In general, Azerbaijan participates in more than 300 NATO programmes which is one of the highest rates among post-Soviet countries," Novruzov said.
