The Azerbaijani Embassy in the U.S. held in Washington, DC a reception on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), the Embassy reported on Friday.
The event was attended by senior officials of the Administration of the President of the United States, a number of members of the Congress, high-ranking officers of the U.S. military, ambassadors of many countries in the U.S., as well as representatives of Azerbaijani, Turkish and Jewish communities.
In the beginning of the event, Argentine singer Maria Enraigues sang the national anthems of Azerbaijan and the United States.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the U.S. Elin Suleymanov, welcoming the guests, spoke about the role of ADR in the restoration of statehood traditions of the country and stressed that Azerbaijan has become a political and economic leader in the region.
The Ambassador expressed his condolences to the Deputy Commander of the National Guard of the State of Oklahoma in the loss of lives during the natural disaster that occurred there.
Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs of the U.S. State Department Carlos Pascual also spoke at the event, noting the crucial role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, which is Azerbaijan's large-scale energy project in the region. Pascual said that Azerbaijan has a leading position in the region. Referring to the Southern Gas Corridor, he stressed that the United States fully supports the project.
Co-chairman of Azerbaijan-US friendship group in the U.S. Congress, congressmen Steve Cohen and Dana Rohrabacher congratulated Azerbaijani people with the Republic Day, noting the importance of enhancing the cooperation between the U.S. and Azerbaijan.
Then the head of the secretariat for the protocol and international relations of the mayoralty of Washington Patricia Elwood read out a congratulatory declaration of the mayor Vincent Gray.
The state reception ended with a concert.
