Any threat to Turkish borders, wherever it may originate, will be strongly suppressed, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Dautoglu told journalists on Friday, commenting on the events which recently took place on the Syrian-Turkish border, TRT Haber channel reported.

According to Davutoglu, the Syrian regime provokes ethnic and sectarian war in the country, trying to draw other countries into the conflict.

The Minister urged all not to give in to provocations and not to make hasty decisions on the matter.

Fierce fighting between the Syrian branch of the PKK terrorist organization and militants of Jabhat Al-Nusra extremist organization took place on Wednesday on the Turkish-Syrian border.

One Turkish citizen was killed as the result of gun fire at the border.

Clashes between government forces and armed opposition have been ongoing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the total number of victims of the conflict exceeds 100,000 people. Syrian authorities say that they are combating very well-armed militants.
