Many world powers are not interested in a strong Turkey, as it is contrary to their interests, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Hürriyet newspaper reported on Monday.

"There are such imperialist powers in the world that are trying to weaken Turkey by any means," Erdogan said.

According to Turkish PM, the events at Istanbul's Taksim Square were also aimed at weakening Turkey both at economical level and at the level of foreign policy.

The protests had been taking place in Turkey for nearly three weeks. According to the authorities the protests had anti-government character.

Oppositional parties in Turkey accused the police of using excessive force against the protestors.

As a result of the unrests in Turkey nearly 4,000 people got traumas of varying severity, 5 died and 4,900 were detained by the police.
