Rey Monitoring Center: 81.2 percent of votes to be cast for President Ilham Aliyev

Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 1 / Trend M. Aliyev /

81.2 percent of respondents surveyed by the Rey Monitoring Center said they will vote for Ilham Aliyev in the upcoming elections of the President of Azerbaijan, the center reported.

"Three candidates have so far been nominated for the post of the President of Azerbaijan: President Ilham Aliyev, the Musavat Party chairman Isa Gambar and screenwriter Rustam Ibrahimbeyov", the center noted.

According to the survey, less than two percent of the respondents would cast their votes for Isa Gambar in the upcoming election, while about one percent said they would give votes to Rustam Ibrahimbeyov.

Responds to these questions were obtained as a result of the nationwide poll conducted by the Rey Monitoring Centre.

According to the center, 11.7 percent of respondents confidently declared their "awareness of the existence of the National Council", while another 17.2 percent said they "know something about this structure". Thus, they constitute 30 percent of the survey participants, of which nearly three-quarter accounted for Baku.

Alongside, 74.2 percent of all respondents got confused and could not answer a control filter question that required naming at least three members of the National Council.

86.1 percent of voters are not aware of the nomination of Rustam Ibraimbeyov as "a single candidate of the opposition".

Alongside, 91.1 percent of respondents did not know that, according to the opposition's intention, if "a single candidate" wins the election, his tenure will last no more than two yeas.

In other words, the vast majority of the population is not informed of the whole multi-pass combination concerning creation of the National Council and nomination of Rustam Ibrahimbeyov as "a single candidate".

Responding to a question about whom they would have offered as a candidate of the opposition, one percent of the respondents named Rustam Ibrahimbeyov (the figure was 1.5 percent in Baku, while in the rest of the country - 0.8 percent). Almost three times as many people named Isa Gambar and 1.6 percent - Ali Kerimli.

The report was prepared based on a nation-wide public opinion survey, conducted on July 22-28, 2013. The survey covered more than 1,500 people aged 18 years and older. The error margin is three percent.
