Deputy PM: Nearly 20 per cent of PKK militants leave Turkey’s territory

There were nearly 2,000 militants of terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey and nearly 20 per cent of them have already left the country's territory, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinch said, "Haber7" newspaper reported on Saturday.

"The process of the militants' withdrawal from Turkey somewhat delayed, but wasn't stopped or interrupted," Deputy PM said.

According to him, the issue of PKK militants' withdrawal from Turkey is a priority for the county's government and the authorities are intended to fight till the end for solution of terrorism problem.

Previously, imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan urged members of the organization to lay down their arms and leave Turkey.

Turkish authorities promised to create conditions for a safe withdrawal of all PKK militants who surrendered.

PKK militants began to leave Turkey on May 8.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the European Union.
