Turkey's Armed Forces are ready to take any steps to protect the borders of the country, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in an interview with A Haber TV channel on Tuesday.

According to him, Turkey does not expect any retaliation from the Syrian Air Force.

"Before shooting down the Syrian helicopter, Turkey has warned its crew about the ban on approaching the Turkish border less than five miles away. However, the helicopter's pilot did not take our warning seriously," the Turkish Foreign Minister said.

Davutoglu also said that the position of the U.S. on the issue of the downed Syrian helicopter coincides with the position of Turkey.

The Turkish Air Force shot down a Syrian helicopter which violated Turkish airspace. The MI-17 type helicopter which crossed the border was hit by missiles from the aircraft which had taken off at 14:25 from a military base in Malatya.
