The Iranian parliament is preparing a bill, which will oblige the government to enrich uranium by up to 60 percent, if is ratified, the Fars News Agency quoted MP Mehdi Mousavinejad as saying on December 14.
The bill will be presented to the parliament's presiding board as a double-urgency plan, he added.
Considering the approaches of the world powers in the nuclear negotiations, the parliament is developing a plan which obliges the government to boost enrichment to above 60 percent, he said.
We need 60-percent enriched uranium to provide fuel for ships, he noted.
Tehran has urged the Sextet of world powers to live up to their commitments stipulated in an interim deal they reached with Iran in Geneva.
"If the P5+1 countries seek to make serious progress in the negotiations and reach a comprehensive solution with Iran, they should honor the obligations in the Geneva deal which include goodwill and the spirit of understanding and cooperation," Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister and top nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi said in a televised interview on Friday, Press TV reported.
He made the comments after the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama on Thursday issued new sanctions against more than a dozen companies and individuals for "providing support for" Tehrran's nuclear program.
The U.S. Treasury Department said it was freezing assets and banning transactions of entities that attempt to evade the sanctions against Iran.
