Baku, Azerbaijan, Jan. 23
By Ilkin Izzet - Trend:
Anti-corruption operations conducted in Turkey on Dec. 17 last year, will not have a serious impact on the country's economy, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Ismail Alper Coskun told Trend on Jan. 23.
The ambassador said the Turkish economy's success in recent years is not random and is based on a solid foundation.
Therefore the Turkish economy has stood at the time when the world experienced an economic crisis.
"We have built the banking sector and the financial system on a reasonable and healthy foundation. There have been various speculations and games after the recent events. But despite that, I do not think that Turkish economy will suffer significant damage," he said.
The diplomat said these events will not weaken Turkey, but on the contrary, they will lead to its strengthening.
"Everyone should understand that Turkey is a country with the rule of law, which is hardened and is able to overcome these events. Therefore I believe that the speculations and concerns are out of place," Coskun said.
During special operations conducted in Ankara and Istanbul on Dec. 17, 2013 dozens of people were arrested. Among the arrested there were sons of several ministers and prominent businessmen. The arrests were made on charges of corruption, smuggling and selling drugs.
