The friendship between Azerbaijani and Russian Afghan war veterans is very significant; it has a positive effect on the relationship between the two countries, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said on Feb. 19.
The ambassador made the remarks at an event held under the motto "Azerbaijani Afghan war veterans ready for any order of the Supreme Commander!" and dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan.
Dorokhin pointed out that Azerbaijani soldiers showed great bravery in fights in Afghanistan, and stressed that both Russia and Azerbaijan are conducting work to solve the social problems of the Afghan war veterans.
"Between Azerbaijan and Russia there is a mutual respect, and it is very encouraging that today Azerbaijani and Russian Afghans war veterans are together," he said.
The ambassador noted that Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev attaches great importance to friendship between the Afghan war veterans of the two countries.
