Smugglers kill four in Iran

Unknown gunmen, suspected of smuggling historical valuables, have killed four people (two residents of the Shorgol village in the city of Bilasuvar and two policemen), police commander of Iran's Ardabil province, Ibrahim Karimkhan said, the country's IRNA news agency reported on April 23.

The incident occurred on April 22. The policemen stopped a suspicious car and subsequently the officers were fired upon, according to the police commander.

A criminal case has been initiated on the fact. Operations are underway to detain the perpetrators.

Other details of the incident haven't been reported so far.

Previously, several Iranian websites spread information about the death of four people in an armed incident on the Iranian-Azerbaijani border. Iranian websites also reported that the incident occurred in the village of Khoruzlu in the city of Bilasuvar in Iran's Ardabil province.
