The military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has kidnapped an officer of the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, Turkish Anadolu agency quoted the deputy head of Hamas political bureau, Moussa Abu Marzouk as saying on August 1.

Marzouk underscored that the officer of the Israeli army was kidnapped before the declaration of the truce.

On August 1, Israel agreed to a three-day humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip, previously announced by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

During his visit to India, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry announced that the parties agreed to a ceasefire from 08:00 on August 1.

Previously, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza confirmed consent of all factions of the Palestinian resistance for a 72-hour truce with Israel.

More than 1,500 Palestinians were killed and 7,000 were injured as a result of Israel's military operation in the Gaza Strip.

Some 20 mosques and more than five hospitals were completely destroyed during the hostilities.

The Israeli army lost some 131 servicemen during the hostilities in Gaza, Turkish Anadolu agency reported citing the military wing of Hamas movement. However, the Israeli authorities have not confirmed this information.
