Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev commended newly elected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his electoral win in the recent presidential election.

"I once again sincerely welcome you to Azerbaijan. Taking this opportunity, I once again cordially congratulate you on the great victory in the presidential election," President Aliyev said at an enlarged meeting with Erdogan.

The Azerbaijani president noted that this victory once again shows that the work carried out by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in recent years, is highly appreciated by the Turkish people.

"We are very glad that a few days after the inauguration you arrived on an official visit to Azerbaijan. This once again shows that Azerbaijan and Turkey have fraternal and friendly relations, and these relations stand at the highest level," Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani president noted that during the one on one meeting with Erdogan, the two sides discussed various areas of mutual interest.

"Once again we saw that our unity is strengthening day by day. Our views coincide on all issues, and we have one goal - to successfully develop brotherly and friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey. I am sure this visit will be an important step taken in this direction," President Aliyev said.
