Novruz Mammadov, deputy head of Azerbaijani presidential administration, chief of the administration's foreign relations department, called British Prime Minister David Cameron's recent statement on Spain's Catalonia a principled position.

PM Cameron has recently said that in case of Catalonia's secession from Spain, it will automatically be outside the EU and will have to take its place at the back of the queue of the countries running to become EU members.

"Now that's what I call a principled position. Prime Minister Cameron literally threatened independence-driven Catalonia," Mammadov said in a tweet Sept. 5.

"That said, Mr. Cameron seems to deem appropriate for Bako Saakian to visit London, hold meetings and deliver speeches," he further noted. "Perhaps, they intend to welcome the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic" into the EU should Catalonia exit."
